Ship Be Sailin'

When Alex first set me up with the poopdeck, I had no idea how coincidental the title was. It just seemed to fit, what with the name Admiral (from an old high school band, Admiral Poopypants and his Dancing Teeth), and my love for pirates, that the web site take the form of a ship, sailing from post to post. Ever since then, however, the ship has set sail far beyond the simple pages of this weblog, and set course for much broader horizons. Everyday, I realize that this journey has only just begun...

Life can be strange sometimes, seemingly giving you a sense of direction, and essentially plotting your course, only to throw in a few big waves to toss you in a different direction. Lately, my waters have been filled with these waves, but like any good pirate should, I've loved it, and I've charged head on into them.

If you were to ask me a year ago, where would I be now, I can assure you I would not have said 'Seattle.' Not because I didn't want to, but simply because my ship didn't seem to be sailing here at the time. If you had asked me 9 months ago, would you be an uncle, I assure you I would not have said 'yes.' Not because I had any doubt, it just wasn't knowingly in my agenda. If you had asked me 3 months ago, who would I be with today, I assure you I would not have answered 'with the yin to my yang, the pork chop to my applesauce, and the blank cd's to my kazaa.' Not because I didn't like it, but simply because I just never saw what was right there in front of me.

And if you asked me one month ago, where would I be today, I never would have expected the answer to be 'preparing to live and work in Japan.' Not because I didn't want to, I just had never opened my mind to the possibilities of exploring the world.

I guess what I'm saying is, this ship set sail back in September, and the Admiral has no intentions of docking quite yet. There will be a time when the ship needs to stop, when it needs to be retired, but until then it has a vast ocean to explore, and seems to come across every oppertunity to do so. Ever since this discovery began, life has become much more interesting, and overwhelmingly more exciting. My time in Seattle has been amazing, and I really will miss the city and the wonderful people here. But who knows, in the future, I'm sure the ship will return.

I ask anyone, where will you be one year from now, I'd like to hope your answer would be "I don't know." Life should be much more exciting than just sitting behind a desk all day.

Till next time mates, ye admiral be settin course fer Osaka, Japan, in early May!

Yaaaar me swabs, hope ta see ya on the port bow!

Actually, it was Admiral Poopiepants and THE Dancing Teeth. See, there was no ADM PP, we were all Teeth. But since you were the lead singer, people (and eventually you) assumed that you were indeed the Admiral in mention. But in reality, we were all just Teeth.

I'm cranky.

Buying books would be a good thing if one could also buy the time to read them in: but as a rule the purchase of books is mistaken for the appropriation of their contents.
